It’s hard to articulate the depth of emotions stirred by such an extraordinary experience—a lifelong dream fulfilled. The one hour spent with the gorillas felt fleeting, but it was a necessary limitation to ensure their well-being, preventing constant disruption from eager photographers. We were incredibly fortunate to encounter the Susa family, a formidable group comprising 19 members, including three silverbacks and four babies. Our tour, organized by Makali Safaris, was expertly led by Emmanuel, whose wealth of knowledge, humor, and dedication made the journey unforgettable. The porters, always cheerful and supportive, deserve recognition and gratitude; even if their assistance isn’t needed (as was my case), offering a tip is a small gesture of appreciation. It’s wise to come prepared with ample cash for tipping and donations, as these are customary throughout the experience. Overall, it was an exceptional adventure, and I’m immensely grateful to have been a part of it.
